Art Camp & macaroni necklaces

I was reminded this week of the mini ART CAMP that I did this summer for my kids and a few friends. Liv and I painted the macaroni the night before and and all the kids made easy macaroni necklaces. To paint big batches of macaroni quickly you can just squeeze some paint into a zip lock bag and then shake pasta around in it. Really simple and clean method. Then we put it all out to dry. We also painted cardboard stars! I didn’t end up taking very many pictures from that day, but here are just a few. Also, I recently discovered LA ART Studios —- awesome inspiration for fun art projects for kids. Planning on making their recycled cardboard snowflakes with Liv and Cohen sometime this next month!

Bouquet of Sharpened Pencils

"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address."  One of my favorite lines from my favorite movie, You’ve Got Mail.

Earlier this month my mom bought me a pack of highlighters “for the start of a new school year” and it warmed my heart. I had them near my desk on my shelf (above) until my daughter stole them. They were too pretty just sitting there in her reach. Good thing I love all her artwork :)

Cardboard Castle

Liv and I recently made a cardboard castle and had so much fun. I got the idea from The Artful Parent. They have a fantastic newsletter and always send out ideas that I feel like we can do with basic supplies (even better we could recycle our cardboard boxes and toilet paper rolls for this project). I bought a pack of Kwik Sticks (tempera paint in a stick form-dries almost instantly), but unfortunately when I spray painted the cardboard the kwik sticks wiped off (?) We ended up using them on some of the side pillars, but then grabbing our basic acrylics to paint the rest. The kids have loved playing with it!!
